Terms of service

Last updated October 16, 2026

These terms cover your use of Geocode AI (the website, the API, the MCP server, the CLI and the plugins), run by Meter (“we”). By creating an account or calling the API you agree to them.

Accounts and keys

  • You need an account for API keys. Keep your keys secret; you are responsible for calls made with them.
  • Don't share an account between organisations or create accounts to get around plan limits.
  • Revoke a key from the dashboard as soon as you think it has leaked.

Plans, units and billing

  • Each plan includes a number of units a month, listed on the pricing page. Unused units don't roll over.
  • When you reach your limit, calls that use units are refused until the next month or until you upgrade.
  • Paid plans renew monthly until you cancel. You can cancel any time; the plan stays active until the end of the period.
  • We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice by email.

Acceptable use

  • Don't use the service to break the law, to harm others, or to attack or overload it or the services it relies on.
  • Don't scrape the site or resell raw API access as a competing boundaries API.
  • Respect the rate limits. We may throttle or suspend keys that put the service at risk, and will tell you why.

Data you get

Boundary data comes from OpenStreetMap and is licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL). You may store and use it, including commercially, as long as you follow the ODbL: credit “© OpenStreetMap contributors” where you display it and share alike if you distribute a derived database. Polygons from Areas are yours to use, subject to the same attribution for the boundaries they are built from.

Data you send

You keep the rights to what you send us. We use it only to run the service, as described in the privacy policy. Descriptions sent to Areas are processed by an AI model provider and not used to train models.

No warranty

Boundaries are only as accurate as the open data behind them, and Areas can misread a description. Check results before you rely on them for legal, financial or safety decisions. The service is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Changes and ending

We may update these terms; we'll email you about material changes before they apply. You can close your account at any time. We may close accounts that break these terms.
